Jet A-1
Kerosene-type aviation turbine fuel used in commercial and other turbine-powered aircraft.
Product Overview
Jet A-1 is an aviation middle distillate formulated for turbine engines. Its specification combines energy content and combustion performance with low-temperature behaviour, thermal stability and stringent cleanliness requirements.
Grades & Specification
Principal references include ASTM D1655 and DEF STAN 91-091. The applicable specification and any additional joint-system requirements define the complete grade.
| Characteristic | Reference Basis | Product Relevance |
|---|---|---|
| Freezing Point | −47°C maximum | A defining low-temperature characteristic of Jet A-1. |
| Flash Point | 38°C minimum | One of the grade’s physical safety characteristics. |
| Thermal Stability | Specified test limits | Resistance to deposit formation at elevated temperatures. |
| Combustion Quality | Specified performance limits | Smoke point, aromatics and energy-related characteristics. |
| Water & Particulates | Aviation cleanliness requirements | Fuel cleanliness is maintained throughout the supply chain. |
| Additives | Approved types and concentrations | Additive identity and treatment form part of the quality record. |
Selected Jet A-1 reference characteristics. They do not replace the complete contractual specification or batch quality documentation.
A Distinct Aviation Grade
Jet A and Jet A-1 are different grades: Jet A-1 has the lower maximum freezing point. Product integrity, traceability and handling quality remain central to aviation fuel performance beyond the refinery specification.
