This week in the oil markets was marked by rising prices amid OPEC's continued supply cuts and increasing demand as economies globally continued to reopen. Brent crude oil prices increased by 0.8% to $71.47 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil prices increased by 1.1% to $69.39 per barrel.

One factor that influenced pricing this week was OPEC's decision to maintain its existing supply cuts, which have been in place since April 2020. Despite some disagreement among member countries, the group ultimately agreed to continue limiting output for another month, signaling confidence in the strength of demand.

Another factor driving prices was a report from the International Energy Agency (IEA) which revised its oil demand growth forecast for 2021 upwards due to an improved outlook for the global economy. The report forecasts oil demand to increase by 5.4 million barrels per day (bpd) this year, up from its previous estimate of 4.7 million bpd.

Additionally, data from the United States Energy Information Administration (EIA) showed a larger-than-expected drop in crude oil inventories, indicating stronger demand in the world's largest oil consumer.

Overall, the combination of OPEC's supply cuts, increased demand from the global economic recovery, and a decrease in inventories contributed to rising oil prices this week. However, concerns about the potential resurgence of COVID-19 in some parts of the world and potential supply increases from Iran could still impact pricing in the coming weeks. #oil #energy #markets #economy #drakensbergenergy #covid
